Chapter 44: Gathering Information About Bennet Family

Alaric sat with Rosalind, his hand holding hers, his eyes filled with concern and affection. He had listened to her pour out her heart, her fears, her regrets, and he was determined to help her, to comfort her, to ease her pain.

Rosalind looked up at him, her eyes filled with tears, her expression filled with gratitude. “I know, Alaric,” she said, her voice filled with emotion. “But I can’t help it. I feel so guilty, so responsible for everything that’s happened. I can’t stop thinking about it, can’t stop blaming myself.”

Alaric smiled, his eyes filled with warmth and affection. “I understand, Rosalind,” he said. “But you have to remember that you’re not alone in this. You have people who care about you, who want to help you. And you can’t help anyone if you’re not taking care of yourself.”

He paused, his expression growing serious as he looked her in the eye. “Besides,” he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “If you keep going on like this, you’ll become ugly. And then I won’t like you anymore.”
